چکیده

In recent years, Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) experience growing interest in both academia and industry. VANETs apply multiple channels, namely Control Channel (CCH) and Service Channels (SCHs), to provide road safety services and improve the comfort and efficiency of driving. Based on the time slotted p-persistent channel access mechanism, this paper proposes a multiple priority supported medium access control (MAC) protocol for VANETs, which differentiates the packets into multi-priority on the CCH. A Markov analytical model is presented to optimize the packet transmission probabilities with different priorities and the adjustable intervals of the CCH and SCH. Moreover, a contention-free ACK scheme is reported to guarantee the reliable broadcast of the safety packets and avoid collision caused by numerous ACK packets on CCH. Simulation results indicate that the proposed MAC protocol is able to ensure the prioritized transmission of the safety packets, and it can achieve optimal system performance in terms of saturated throughput. 2013 Elsevier B.V. A Distributed MAC Scheme for Emergency Message Dissemination in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

The successful dissemination of emergency messages in vehicular ad hoc networks can make a difference between life and death. To achieve the life-saving goals, emergency message dissemination needs timely and lossless medium access in vehicular ad hoc networks. Although in the literature there are existing medium access control (MAC) protocols that support priority medium access, these protocol...

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

Performance Analysis of a Hybrid Efficient and Reliable MAC Scheme for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks in Safety Applications

Safety applications are the highest priority services in the Vehicular Ad Hoc NETworks (VANETs). To support the highest priority service, the Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is designed to provide efficient broadcast. Compared to IEEE 1609.4, a new multi-channel MAC for VANET (HER-MAC) is proposed which is more reliable in safety applications. In this paper, we propose an analytical model ...
